Background of ICES

The Institution of Certified Engineers, Singapore (ICES) was formed in 1973 to promote the profession of engineers certified by the Singapore Government to control critical operations in public utilities, power generation and environmental control in commercial and industrial operations.

After making substantial progress over 18 years, on 30 August, 1991, the Professional Engineers Act was enhanced to strictly regulate the practice of engineers. In this Act certified engineers of ICES were accorded the same status for the purpose of practising in specific areas of engineering.

ICES operates as a non-profit professional Institution, which promotes and advances excellence of operations engineers in Singapore, and actively champion the initiatives in the region and worldwide through networking and collaboration with other local and international engineering organizations.

As a result, ICES formed a Joint Committee with Singapore Institute of Engineering Technologists (SIET) on 27 Aug, 2010, to promote the objectives of both Institutions.
